Quondam Abes

Incipit (10-min) 2009 A Cat Odyssey : watch clip and write a title for the story, in Latin.

I. "Cerberus." Explanation of five-point rubric (logos, ethos and pathos). Journals checked for accuracy, completion and great impression. Text translated and corrected. Students self-assessed in journals.

II. Transformatio: Latin Word Order Exercise. Convert sample sentences in "Cerberus" into typical Latin word order. Explain the oral background to this word order.

III. Transformatio: Question words Nonne, #-ne, and answers Ita, Ita Vero, Certe, Bene, Optime (Yes) and Minime (No). Convert two statements in "Cerberus" in a straightforward fashion (expecting a factual Yes or No), and convert two others into silly questions (eg. "Stat-ne Grumio in mensa?")

Classwork completed. There is no homework.

On the Dock for Friday: A 5-point quiz about knowing the parts of your textbook. Model sentences, vocabulary building strategies, more question words. Introduction to Hestia project and students will select POIESIS options.
